Rock Climbing Instructor
I have recently completed a Rock Climbing Instructor Training course with Steve Hodge Mountaineering. The course was run in the Mourne Mountains and a day in Awesome Walls in Dublin.
This was a great opportunity to expand my depth of knowledge of indoor climbing and how these safe and comfortable venues can be used to create confidence and teach new skills.
We looked at using bouldering walls for coaching and different climbing games to teach fundamental skills for example movement and balance.
We set up a number of group climbing systems for both top roping and abseiling. Also various belays for personal climbing, either in reach or out of reach and the advantages and disadvantages for both.
The delivery of structured learning has developed my confidence and aptitude in making key decisions using available resources in a multitude of climbing environments.
Learning how to structure an engaging, safe climbing session pitched at the right level for clients has been invaluable.
I have also advanced my understanding of:
problem solving
performing rescues in given situations
more importantly it has increased my level of knowledge in preventing such events from occurring.
The course displayed a comprehensive insight of systems and ideas in climbing, this has broadened my professional competency while allowing creativity and outward thinking for continued progression.
Some of these skills have included ideas and procedures on how to make climbing inclusive for all levels of ability and how to be dynamic both in personal climbing and in group settings.
The comfortable and fun environment provided by Steve Hodge Mountaineering has encouraged my tenacity and eagerness to learn more.
I enjoyed the course immensely. It has been a fundamental part in my advancement as a rock climber and has increased my proficiency within the industry. I highly recommend this course to anyone wishing to further their develop their rock climbing skills.
The Rock Climbing Instructor qualification trains and assesses candidates in safe climbing on single pitch crags and artificial climbing structures throughout the UK and Ireland.
In addition to good personal climbing skills, a rock climbing instructor will demonstrate safe group management, be an effective supervisor and encourage others to enjoy their climbing safely.
This course is suitable for rock climbing enthusiasts wishing to introduce others to the sport of rock climbing.
