Mountain Leader Training
Walking in mountains across the UK and Ireland can present a variety of challenges; therefore it is imperative for all mountaineering and hill walking enthusiasts to expand their composite skills in preparing for enjoyable, safe and efficient journeys in the hills. Our courses in mountain leader training will help you to gain the skills required to lead groups in the mountains across the UK and Ireland with independence and confidence.
Mountain Leader training develops further knowledge and ability in group management, navigation and expedition planning along with environmental awareness, camp craft, managing groups on steep ground and emergency rope work.
This course is suitable for any hill walking and mountaineering enthusiasts wishing to achieve this qualification.
This course can be delivered during five consecutive days or can be completed in sequence consisting of two days for mountain leader one followed by three days for mountain leader two at a later date, which will include an expedition element.
Registering for the Mountain Leader Award
To register you must:
Be at least 18 years old
Be a current member of one of the three Mountaineering Councils: Mountaineering Ireland, the British Mountaineering Council or Mountaineering Scotland.
Have passed the Mountain Skills Assessment
Our aim is to deliver a high standard of coaching, focusing on devising a progressive learning environment for all clients.
ML1 Training
ML1 training
The main aim is to reinforce basic skills through encouragement in a fun and friendly environment and assist in building client confidence to further accomplish their goals.
This training course provides the first stage of tuition in gaining the highly sought after Mountain Leader award. This is a 2 day practical course spent walking through the mountains.
During this course we will cover the following:
Day and night navigation training, weather, safe movement on steep ground, emergency rope work, group management and leadership skills.

ML2 Training
ML2 training
This conclusive part of the course will benefit clients who are keen to achieve the Mountain Leader award.
This will complete the skills set conducive for moving forward to Mountain Leader assessment.
During this section we will be looking at the following:
Day and night navigation training, weather, safe movement on steep ground, emergency rope work, group management, leadership skills and camp craft.

ML Workshops
Our ML workshops are run over one or two days in the mountains throughout Ireland. The workshops provide an opportunity for clients to confirm and practice skills prior to attending their assessment, or just to refresh skills previously taught, therefore maintaining current best practice.
This course will benefit clients who are keen to achieve the Mountain Leader award.

Attended Mountain Leader Training.
